HTC Desire Cell Phone


HTC Desire cell phone is an Android cell phone that uses Android version 2.1 (Eclair) OS. HTC Desire cell phone is also equipped by HTC Sense with 7 homescreen. The processor is Snapdragon 1 Ghz which is far faster from HTC Legend processor. From HTC information, The Android version 2.2 (Froyo) upgrading for this cell phone will be available soon. The 2GB microSD is as default for this cell phone since the data backup will be automatically point to microSD as well as the application installation.

The microSD is really important – so important that the Camera/Camcorder can not be operated if there is no microSD. It is because the result will be directly saved into microSD since the photo result size is big. The homescreen is still 7 panels – included FriendStream and Favourites. There is also Pople which acts as Phonebook but with more complete information such as Facebook status or Flickr photo collection. As additional, there is recent SIM shortcut icon that pointed to operator web site at the homescreen. There is “with Google” label near the “with HTC Sense” label which means that HTC Desire cell phone supports the entire Google Mobile Service.

The FriendStream has been equipped by Flickr and Plurk. As usual, The Facebook application has been modified so users can upload photo and video directly from inside the application. Users also can directly call the number in the Facebook’s phonebook. For the YouTube application, users can upload as well as watch the video. The FM Radio only can active if earphone is plugged. The speaker sound quality is okay but, as usual, the best sound quality is always from earphone. The settings available is Mute/Unmute, Mono/Stereo, Speaker/Headset, And Scan/Save. As additional, there is Europe/Japan regional.

HTC Desire cell phone is equipped by internal GPS. The GPS and Google Maps is a great combination for traveling. The camera supports geo-tagging and then collect the result in footprints. This footprints allows users to give the personal note for the photo result. The photos also can be saved at Favorites, Shopping, Dining, Leisure, and others available categories. The place that tagging will be shown up at Google Maps. For PC/Laptop connection, HTC Desire cell phone uses the HTC Sync application.

The screen is 3.7 inches 480×800 pixels WVGA Touchscreen which is quite large. The face print is easily leaved in the screen. Fortunately, the screen is scratch resistant so can be cleaned up with any fabric. The behind casing uses the dof material. For the sensor, HTC Desire cell phone uses G-sensor, proximity sensor, and ambient light sensor. The ringer volume will automatically fall of when users receive the incoming call. The screen is also automatically darker when we put it near the cheek for voice communication.

There are 4 buttons at below of the touch screen which is Home, Menu, Optical Joystick, and Back/Search. At below side of back body, there is ergonomic curve which is similar with Google Nexus One design. The back casing is opened by prying the niche in top. In behind the casing, there is battery, microSD slot, and SIM slot. There is microUSB port and 3.5 mm audio jack in body below. The extra speaker is in top right and the volume button is in top left. There is no halter hole available for this cell phone.

The camera is 5 MP with autofocus and flash feature. There is no camera button in this HTC Desire cell phone. Users can access the camera application through camera icon in the prime panel of homescreen. The Comcorder icon can be found in the main menu. The changing between photo and comcorder mode can be done through setting menu. The default display is in landscape. Also that, the screen able to adapt with the light automatically. The flash is bright enough but only can be used in photo mode. As shutter, users can use the joystick. The focus point can be changed by tap the screen. The zoom function will be shown after we tap the “+/-” icon.

The camera settings are Face Detection, ISO, Widescreen, Geo-tagging, Quality, Self-timer, Time stamp, and Grid. The video settings are Encoding type, Recording length, and record, In both mode, there are brightness, Contrast, Saturation, Sharpness, Effect, White balance, Resolution, Metering mode, Review duration, Flicker adjustment, Auto-focus, and Shutter sound. The photo result can be directly uploaded to YouTube. Photo and video can be sent through Bluetooth, Gmail, Mail, or Messages. Albums can show the photo from Facebook and Flickr.

The battery is Li-ion 3.7V 1400 mAh which offers 4 hours talk time and 3 days standby time. For internet connectivity, HTC Desire cell phone supports GPRS, EDGE, 3G, and WLan. For other connectivity, this cell phone supports 3.5 mm audio jack, MicroUSB, Bluetooth 2.1 (EDR, A2DP, FTP, OPP), and WiFi 802.11 b/g. For network, this cell phone supports GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz and HSPA/WCDMA 900/2100 MHz.
