HTC Desire Z cell phone offers mobile office, information center, classy multimedia, and reliable navigation function in one box. It is possible with combination of Android OS, full QWERTY physical keypad, and wide touch screen. The design is classy and elegant with the metal material, simple lay out, and silver color combination. The dimensions are 11.9x6x1.42 cm with 180 grams as weight which is big but still comfortable enough on the hand.
The ergonomic design makes it even more comfortable on the hand. HTC Desire Z mobile phone does not use slider system but uses hinge system which offers neat and sturdy. However this hinge system makes the keyboard room is more limited. The keyboard buttons is small with soft rubber material. The button is still comfortable since the between buttons distance is wide enough. The interesting part is that HTC Desire Z smart phone keyboard’s button represents two letters which are alphabet and symbol.
The bad news is that there is no navigation button available on the keyboard so users must use the TrackPad in below of touch screen. In between Touch Screen and TrackPad, there are four haptic buttons which are Home, Menu, Back, and Search. On the right side body, there is a camera button. Volume controller and micro USB port can be found on the left side body. On the top side body, there is 3.5 mm audio jack and charger port.
The speaker body can be found on the back cover which is not an optimum position for speaker since the sound propagation will not maximum to front. The microSD slot is on the below of battery which not support the hot-swap function. The screen is 16M colors 480×800 pixels 3.7 inches Super-LCD capacitive touch screen with ambient sensor, accelerometer, proximity sensor, and multi-touch function. HTC Desire Z cell phone’s display is good enough – the color is high and sharp.
The screen is still able to work in below direct sun light. The zoom function is great by using the double taps system which can be used to zoom the gallery or web browser content. The performance is quite great with Qualcomm Scorpion MSM7230 800 MHz CPU and 512 MB RAM. Yes, it is true that the other already used the 1 GHz CPU but if benchmarking in right way, this 800 MHz CPU can work in great performance for sure.
HTC Desire Z mobile phone uses Android 2.2 Froyo as operating system. For the user interface (UI), this android cell phone is equipped with HTC Sense 3.0. There are seven homescreens available which can be widgetized. There are a lot of widgets available such as social networking widget, Email widget, Stocks widget, or News widget. For personalizing, users can download many available themes and ring tones from HTC Hub.
For applications, users can use HTC Likes beside the well-known Android Market. HTC Sense 3.0 offers more advance phone-book which can be synchronized with social networking such as Facebook, Twitter, or Flickr. Also that, it can be synchronized with MS Exchange. HTC Desire Z cell phone users can use HTCSense.com to remote their cell phone for security purpose. There are four menus available which are forward call, forward message, make phone ring at full volume, and secure MyPhone.
The interesting part of HTCSense.com menus are secure MyPhone. Secure MyPhone can be used to lock or erase the important data of users missing cell phone remotely. Also that, users can find the missing cell phone via HTCSense.com by using the HTCSense.com’s map feature. For navigation,, HTC Desire Z cell phone is equipped with GPS and offline map. This offline map is interesting since users still can use it even though there is no mobile operator signal. The navigation visualization is already 3D.
The location searching process is precise and fast and the Point of Interest (POI) list is quite complete. This offline map is presented by incorporation of HTC and Route66 which is only free for first month. After that, users will be charged for USD 4.99 a month. As Android mobile phone, HTC Desire Z cell phone offers great internet experience. This mobile phone supports HDSPA 14.4/5.76 Mbps downlink/uplink, EDGE, GPRS, WiFi b/g/n and GSM Quadband.
For other connectivity, HTC Desire Z smart phone supports DLNA, USB 2.0, and Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP. There are also many built-in social networking applications on it. The Email features support multi-account, push Email, MS Exchange, and full HTML. The camera is 5 MP with LED Flash , touch focus, face detection, geo-tagging, digital zoom, and manual ISO. For shutter, users can use the camera button as well as touch screen (by tapping it).
The HTC Desire Z cell phone photo quality is so-so. The image editor application is surely a big help to improve the photo quality. The video quality is quite good. The camcorder produces HD quality (1280×720 pixels) video. It is great even though the sound quality is still mono. The video object movement is in 25 fps. For maximum audio experience, users is suggested to use the headset. The sound is clear, sharp, and powerful.
The speaker body sound quality is good enough but the sound propagation is not well because of the speaker location. HTC Desire Z mobile phone is also equipped with FM Radio feature.
