LG Optimus Black P970 cell phone is an Android cell phone which targets the general cell phone market. The design is light and simple with rectangle shape without many additional accent. The casing color is purely black as its name. The dimensions are 122x64x9.2 mm which is thin enough for its class. The weight is 109 gram which is possible since the casing material is plastic. The front look is dominated by touchscreen and haptic button.

The screen is 480×800 pixels 16M colors 4 inches capacitive WVGA IPS LCD touch screen. The four haptic buttons are home, back, search, and manage button. There is a 2MP secondary camera in above of the display. At the left-side, there are volume button and gesture button. At the top-site, there are power button, microUSB slot, and 3.5 mm audio jack. At the behind, there are main camera, flash light, and body speaker.

The main camera is 5 MP camera with autofocus and LED flash. The interesting part is surly gesture button. It is an interesting unique features shortcut. LG Optimus Black P970 cell phone’s users only need to push the button and then shake (based on certain direction) the cell phone to open a feature. It can be configured via menu>Settings>Gesture. The display (which supported by NOVA Display IPS LCD) is also interesting.

The display is brighter and clearer with 700 nits brightness level and 70% rate of gamut color. As comparison, the AMOLED touch screen has 305 nits brightness level and 107% gamut color. The display is still the best even in direct sun light. The Nova technology also offers natural and powerless display for this LG Optimus Black P970 cell phone. The display is also equipped by proximity sensor, accelerometer, multi touch, and Optimus UI 2.0.

Optimus UI 2.0 offers easiness to personalize the cell phone interface. There are 7 home screens available which easy to move, delete, add, and edit. The widgets offers the interesting graphical visual. The contact list is synchronized with online media such as Email, Twitter, Facebook, or other chatting apps. It means when open a friend (from contact list), users can see the last social networking status, photo collection, and schedule directly on the phone.

When in locked condition, LG Optimus Black P970 cell phone can still show several important messages such as incoming call, SMS, or unread Email. On the top of the display, there is a notification page in where users can find activities notification, network settings, profile, and audio player. For input message typing, there is a virtual QWERTY keypad which work in landscape as well as portrait mode. There is no “comma” mark available but it will automatically appear after push the space button.

LG Optimus Black P970 is equipped with several multimedia features such as audio player, video player, video recorder, camera, and FM radio. The games is not included as default application but users always can download it from Android Market or LG World. The audio player’s output quality is in middle level — the sound is still good enough but not as powerful as wanted. To improve the sound, users can utilize the equalizer which equipped with Dolby Mobile feature.

The songs collection can be shared via Bluetooth, Email, and MMS. There is no internal antenna available so user must plug-in the headset if want to enjoy the FM radio feature. FM radio feature is also completed with automatic search which have a range of search. The most interesting part of multimedia feature is the camera. There are two camera available – 2 MP secondary camera and 5 MP main camera.

The secondary camera will be perfectly used for video call. Indeed, it is better than any other cell phone’s secondary camera in the market which only use 1.3 MP camera. The 5 MP main camera offers a good result of photograph. The color is natural – thanks to the autofocus feature. The flash is a big help in the less light condition. However, if to near, the photo result will have some noise spots. The photos can be shared via Bluetooth, Social Networking, MMS, and SmartShare.

It is true that LG Optimus 2X is a better cell phone but still, LG Optimus Black P970 cell phone has a good performance with the support of OMAP 3630 1 Ghz chip-set, 512 MB RAM, and Android 2.2 Froyo (which upgradable to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. There is a lot of default applications available which include Google Mobile Apps (Maps, Email, Chat, and Browser), Yahoo Apps (News and Finance), Social Networking Apps (Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace), and many more.

If needs more applications, users can always download the apps from Android Market or LG World. LG World offers applications in twelve categories which are games, health, education, communication, utility, business & finance, multimedia, ring tone, travel & map, lifestyle, and wallpaper. To access the LG World, users need to create the account first and then users will give the level. More high the level, more applications number available to be downloaded.

LG Optimus Black P970 cell phone supports GSM 850/900/1800/1900 Mhz and HSDPA 900/1700/2100 Mhz. HSDPA offers up-to 7.2 Mbps download speed and 5.6 Mbps upload speed. This cell phone also support WiFi connection so users can use the hotspot available for internet connection. The Android Tethering is also supported so users can use this cell phone as access point for other WiFi enabled devices.

LG Optimus Black P970 cell phone also supports DLNA connection so users can share any contents between DLNA enabled devices. Beside the DLNA, the data sharing also can be done by using Bluetooth or microUSB connection. The battery is Li-Ion 1500 mAh.
