Samsung’s Bada OS

Recently, Samsung is starting to offers cell phones with the new cell phone operating system (OS), Bada OS. Bada OS is the newest cell phone OS that created by Samsung itself. It seems Samsung is really serious about this Bada OS. Samsung even targets to sell 15 millions Bada OS powered cell phones soon after Bada OS launching and target to sell 50 millions for this year. It seems an impossible target, right?

But, Samsung believes this target is reachable if can get support from software development communities. It sounds Samsung really believes into the power of cell phone applications – as long as supported by a lot of the needed applications, Bada OS can reach the large market. Yes, it is not only about the power of hardware but it is also about the power of software. Samsung provides a place specially for Bada OS Apps in Samsung Apps Marketplace.

Any software developments is allowed to sell or share for free their applications via this Samsung Apps Marketplace. Even though the number is not shared but Samsung claims that the applications in Samsung Apps Marketplace has been three times than before. The Samsung Apps Marketplace’s applications price is also reasonable – not so cheap as well as not so expensive. For now, there are Samsung Wave, Wave 525, Wave 533, Wave 575, Wave 723, and Wave II that use Bada OS.

Samsung Bada OS

It is said that there will be many Samsung cell phone series that use Bada OS in near future even thought Samsung will also still play in Android cell phones market. The Bada OS SDK is 1.2.0 version. This Bada O.S. SDK offers easy way to create applications which is perfect for software developers. This SDK 1.2.0 includes web application model, Flash application model, conditional application launcher, OpenGL ES 1.1, 2.0 Extension (PowerVR), WiFi EAP, and memory detector.

Bada O.S. SDK 1.2.0. supports many language such as Basque, Bulgaria, China, Finland, English, Bahasa Indonesia, Urdu, and many more. The Bada O.S. Interface is similar with Android O.S. The Homescreen is equipped with several windows. Users only need to run the finggers on the touch screen. The homescreen is widgetizable which can be equipped with needed shortcut icon easily. Users can use the menu button or sliding tab to access the main menu.

If Android has Android Market and Nokia has Ovi Store, Samsung offers Samsung Apps as applications marketplace for Samsung cell phones. Samsung Apps offers the complete cell phone applications. Users can download game apps, music apps, news apps, and many more from Samsung Apps. The majority of Bada O.S. cell phones depend on touch screen as user interface. However there is several Bada O.S. cell phones that also offer QWERTY keyboard.

Even though Bada O.S. supports GPS and WiFi but, unfortunately, there is no GPS Map or hotspot feature. Also that, there is no office (working) applications such as in Android O.S with its Google Mobile Services. For entertainment, Bada O.S. offers the complete entertainment features such as camera, audio player, video player, and FM radio. FM Radio feature can be said as diffrence for Bada O.S. since, usually, other cell phone operating system (OS) is not equipped with it.
